On 14-16 November 2018, on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of Asia-Pacific Space Cooperation Organization (APSCO), High-Level Forum and 9th International Symposium were successfully held by joint support of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) of China and China National Space Administration.
The APSCO is an intergovernmental organization aimed at supporting the development of space science, space technology and applications among members and regions who has Observer Status for the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space. Mongolia is one of the founding Member States of APSCO ratified in 2008. The forum was held with the theme “Community of Shared Future through Space Cooperation” and attended by more than 90 delegates including Vice ministers, State Secretaries and Chairmen of the space-related agencies of the Member States as well as representatives of UN organizations, international space organizations and embassies in Beijing, China.
Representing Mongolia, delegates led by B.Chinbat, Chairman of Communications and Information Technology Authority /CITA/ and Ts.Gantugs, Director of Space Communication Division of the CITA were participated.Opening the forum, the Minister of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) of China, H.E. Mr. Miao Wei conveyed the Congratulatory Message from H.E Mr. Xi Jinping, President of China. The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Mongolia D.Gankhuyag and Maj.General Amer Nadeem, Chairman of SUPARCO of Pakistan delivered congratulatory letters from H.E. Dr. Arif Alvi, President of Pakistan, and H. E. Mr. Khurelsukh Ukhnaa, Prime Minister of Mongolia, respectively.TheThe Chairman of APSCO Council and the Chairman of CITA of Mongolia, Mr. Chinbat Baatarjav, gave his congratulatory speech and highlighted the achievement of APSCO in the past decade as well as promulgated the Development Vision-2030 of APSCO. During the forum, the document was signed by the Secretary-General and all Council Members of APSCO.Moreover, discussions on the themes “Capacity Building for Developing Countries through Space Cooperation”, and “Capacity Building for Developing Countries through Talents Cultivation” were held between speakers and representatives.Mr. Ts.Nyamkhuu, a lecturer of Mongolian University of Science and Technology gave presentation and shared his views on achievements in space field of Mongolia.
During the forum, Mongolian representatives met with officials the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) of China and exchanged views on extending further cooperation especially on communication networks, postal services, e-commerce and satellite research information and needs to create a mechanism for efficient cooperation between the two organizations.Moreover, they met with directors of Northwestern Polytechnical University (NPU) and Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT) which are the top ranking universities in ICT and engineering field in the world. The parties discussed on opportunities to involve Mongolian ICT staff and students in fellowship programs and conduct professional trainings within the framework of bilateral cooperation and towards capacity building of ICT sector of Mongolia.
