The 13th Meeting of APSCO Council was held in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia during November 5-7, 2019. The Council Members and representatives from Member States Bangladesh, China, Iran, Mongolia, Pakistan, Peru, Thailand, Turkey attended the Meeting.
Mr. Chinbat Baatarjav, Chairman of APSCO Council, hosted the Meeting and welcomed the distinguished Council Members and delegates from the Member States of APSCO. Dr. Li Xinjun, the Secretary-General of APSCO, highlighted various initiatives and major achievements since the last Council Meeting and engagements with international space community. The respective Director-Generals presented detailed reports and proposals of APSCO cooperative activities to the Council for reviewing and approval.
The Council approved the Updated Development Plan of APSCO Projects, also the Updated Development Plan of Education and Training Activities, which set up the roadmap for upcoming years. The documents on “Policy and Procedures for Membership with APSCO” and ”Membership Expansion Plan for APSCO” were approved by the Council in order to benefit more nations in Asia-Pacific region through the space-activity cooperation. With the Council approval, Cooperation Agreements on Postdoctoral program between APSCO and Northwestern Polytechnical University; and the Agreement between APSCO and China National Space Administration on Data Sharing were signed at the end of the session. The Council were also approved the Extension of Cooperation Agreements between APSCO and Harbin Institute of Technology. These agreements would facilitate the capacity building of APSCO Member States.
Last but not least, Major General Mr. Amer Nadeem, the Chairman of Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) was elected as the new Chairman of APSCO for the next two-year term. Departing Chairman was appreciated by all delegation of his outstanding leadership during his term.
The Government of Mongolia and the Communication and Information Technology Authority (CITA) of Mongolia hosted the 13th Meeting of the Council of APSCO with warm hospitality and great support. Before the Council Meeting, a technical visit to the Space Park for APSCO delegation also arranged with the guidance of Mr. Jugderdemidiin Gurragcha, who is the first Mongolian hero to go into space.
